THE FANS WERE OUTSTANDING

25 August 2014

Iron manager Russ Wilcox praised the Scunthorpe support who travelled to Huish Park on Saturday as United faced Yeovil Town.

Scunthorpe picked up their first point of the league campaign against recently relegated Yeovil, in a 1-1 draw, Wilcox was pleased with the fans who made the journey down south.

The hosts took the lead midway through the second half, before Paddy Madden equalised for Scunthorpe in the last 10 minutes.

Yeovil is one of the furthest distances that Scunthorpe will have to travel this season, so Wilcox was happy to see so many make the journey down to support the Iron in their third away game of the season.

With it being the first point of the campaign, Wilcox said it shows the commitment of the fans towards the club.

193 fans made the trip to follow the Iron and Wilcox said the point is for the fans who made the trip on Saturday.

“They were outstanding. We applauded them before the game which was important,” Wilcox told The Iron Player.

“I think we’re not on a good run at the moment, no points on the board before today, so to show the commitment towards your club like that is absolutely outstanding.”

He added: “So the journey back with a point, is for the fans. For the 200 who came today, as I thought they were absolutely outstanding.”
