ATTWELL HANDED SWINDON CLASH

7 August 2014

Stuart Attwell will be the man in charge for the Iron’s opening game of the season against Swindon Town this coming Saturday.

November was the last time Attwell refereed an Iron game, when he oversaw the FA Cup replay between the Iron and Grimsby Town last season. He last refereed an Iron league game the season back in 2012, when the Iron beat Exeter City 1-0 at Glanford Park.

Born in Warwickshire, former Premier League official Attwell has been a referee since 2007. He refereed the League Two Play-Off Final between Rochdale and Stockport County at Wembley in May 2008 and was promoted to Premier League the following season, becoming the youngest official ever to referee at that level at the age of 25 when he oversaw the 1-1 draw between Hull City and Blackburn Rovers on 23rd August 2008.

He was involved in a bizarre incident a month later in a Championship game between Reading and Watford, where a goal for Reading was awarded when, something that was famously dubbed the ‘’ghost goal’’ in the media.

Attwell will be assisted by Paul Hobday and Mark Howes, whilst Dumitru-Ravel Cheosiaua will act as Fourth Official.
