IRON v OXFORD - WE'VE MET BEFORE

20 April 2014

Easter Monday will see us try and make it back-to-back wins against Oxford United.

We defeated the U's 2-0 at the Kassam Stadium earlier in the season, when Deon Burton and Dave Syers scored.

Scunthorpe have the edge, having won eight of the past meetings against the U's. Oxford have won five of the 19 clashes, while there have been seven draws.

Baraclough's late heroics...

A last-minute equaliser from Ian Baraclough rescued a point for Scunthorpe against Oxford on a Friday night in front of 5,977 fans in March 2005.

Midfielder Baraclough scored from close range just when it looked like the visitors would hold on despite being dominated for much of the game.

Oxford had taken the lead after when striker Tommy Mooney fired home with his side's first shot on target.

Scunthorpe could have gone top of League Two with a win but had to be content with a point in the end. Nevertheless, they secured promotion just over a month later.

Hayes strike cancelled out...

Veteran Tommy Mooney scored a 25-yard free-kick to secure a point for Oxford in August 2004.

Scunthorpe dominated the first half and almost took the lead through a Paul Hayes volley, but he was denied by a superb save from keeper Chris Tardif.

But Hayes struck a fine individual goal before the break when he capitalised on Jon Ashton's mistake to hit a right-footed drive into the bottom corner.

Scunthorpe had claims for a penalty turned down when Taylor clashed with Matt Robinson inside the box.
