IRON BACKED TO MAINTAIN PUSH

3 April 2014

Scunthorpe are strong favourites to maintain their push for an automatic return to the Sky Bet League One by recording maximum points at bottom club Torquay on Saturday.

The Iron are evens with the League sponsor to extend their 24-match unbeaten run against a Torquay side who are scrapping for their Football League survival.

While Scunthorpe are yet to lose since Russ Wilcox took the reins in November, opponents Torquay are in dire straits losing four of their last five matches 1-0  - it's 5/1 with Sky Bet for the Iron to win by the same scoreline on Saturday.

But despite their recent poor run, the League's bottom club have a decent record in head-to-heads with Scunthorpe, going unbeaten in their last three meetings at Plainmoor.

Scunthorpe eased to a 3-1 victory when the sides last met earlier this season and Sky Bet are offering odds of 7/1 for the Iron to win 3-0, 3-1 or 3-2 in their Correct Score Group Betting market.

The visitors have not scored more than two goals in any of their last six matches so a United win by exactly two goals could be worth a bet at 11/2.

It’s no surprise to see top scorer Sam Winnall head the betting in the first goal scorer market at 9/2. The striker is also 7/1 to follow up his brace in the Iron’s last win at Cheltenham with another double.

Winnall and Paddy Madden both to score in 90 minutes is 11/2, while Winnall to score in a Scunthorpe win is available at 7/4.

Scunthorpe, who trail Rochdale by two points, are 7/4 in the race to win the title with Chesterfield 9/2. Dale are currently even-money favourites to secure the title.
