INJURIES SIDELINED PAIR

16 December 2013

Midfielders Reuben Noble-Lazarus and Michael Collins missed the draw at Wycombe through injury.

However, caretaker manager Russ Wilcox is hoping both players will be back training with the club soon.

“Reuben had a tight groin and felt it go on Thursday so we didn’t want to risk him,” Wilcox told The Iron Player.

“He’s gone back to (parent club) Barnsley to be assessed and hopefully he’ll be back with us on Monday.

“Micky picked up a calf strain in the reserve game against Barnsley and felt a bit of tightness in there so he could be a doubt for next week but hopefully he’ll be back for the festive period.”

Young winger Hakeeb Adelakun came off during the game at Adams Park but Wilcox has stressed that that decision was purely tactical.

And the caretaker boss has praised the performance of his replacement, Marcus Williams, during the second half against the Chairboys.

Wilcox added: “Hakeeb is fine, it was just a tactical switch – we felt that the game was just a bit too quick for him. He’s 17-year- old and he’s still learning so there will be plenty of highs and lows for him.

“Marcus has played in a couple of reserve games recently and we just thought he’d give us that little bit more balance and to be fair to him, I thought he was outstanding.

“Hakeeb is an outstanding talent and we’ve got to maintain his development but there will be days where he’s not quite at it.

“We gave the ball away a lot as a team but the bigger picture is that we’ve won three games out of four and we’ve managed to pick 10 points out of 12 so that’s an outstanding achievement."
