Scunthorpe United is now recruiting for a First Team Grounds Person, offering an exciting opportunity to play a vital role within the First Team Grounds Department at the Attis Arena.

The successful candidate will work under the guidance of the newly appointed First Team Grounds Manager and assist in the maintenance and development of the club’s first team playing surfaces, helping to ensure pitches are prepared to the highest possible standard all year round. Working closely with first team staff and the wider grounds team, the role will contribute directly to supporting player performance through the delivery of elite-level playing conditions.

The club is also making a significant investment into the playing surface and wider pitch operations following a couple of years of inconsistent output. This represents an exciting time to join the department, with a clear focus on raising standards, implementing best practice, and helping to restore the surfaces to the high-quality level the club has been renowned for in previous seasons.

We are looking for an individual with a strong interest or background in sports turf maintenance and pitch care, whether in a professional or educational setting. A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and commitment to maintaining high standards are essential, as is the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Day-to-day responsibilities will include assisting with all routine maintenance practices, supporting pitch preparations, maintaining digital records where required, and helping with the operation of the club’s irrigation systems once trained. The role will also involve general upkeep of surrounding landscaped areas, assisting with basic machinery maintenance, and working alongside contractors when necessary.

This position offers development opportunities within a professional football environment, with the expectation that the successful candidate will grow their knowledge and contribute to maintaining and improving departmental standards.

Applicants should ideally have some experience within sports turf, grounds maintenance, or horticulture, although training will be provided for the right candidate. Relevant qualifications such as an NVQ or Diploma in Turfgrass or Horticulture would be beneficial but are not essential.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join Scunthorpe United and be part of an ambitious and developing grounds team as we look to bring pitch operations back in-house, with work already underway in preparation for the 2026–27 season.

Applicants interested in the role are encouraged to submit a CV and covering letter outlining their suitability to james.moody@scunthorpe-united.co.uk.

The deadline for applications for the role is Friday, June 12th, 2026.
