Scunthorpe United can confirm goalkeeper Rory Watson has been recalled by parent club York City.

Having returned to the club in the summer on a season-long loan from the Minstermen, Watson began the campaign as understudy to Maison Campbell, but was given his chance between the sticks away at Eastleigh as a late replacement in the warm-up due to injury.

Since that encounter, he's made the jersey his own, aiding the club to second place in the Enterprise National League with 10 league appearances in his third spell at the club, keeping two official clean sheets in wins over Truro City and Southend United, and a further in our infamous later awarded 0-0 win over Wealdstone.

In addition to the 10 league appearances, Watson also aided the Iron into the first round of the Emirates FA Cup for his contributions in a 4-2 win over King's Lynn Town to set up this weekend's meeting with Blackpool. One of his last contributions in an Iron shirt was that save against Aldershot Town last weekend which preserved all three points.

United's Ernie Storey Memorial Player of the Season award in the 2021–22 campaign, Watson had two previous spells at the club, firstly a loan before that was made permanent in 2017, making in excess of 100 appearances throughout that time.

We would like to thank Rory for his efforts throughout the season so far, and wish him all the very best for the future.
