Scunthorpe United Football Club is inviting supporters, stakeholders, and the wider community to take part in an open consultation regarding a potential update to the club’s crest.
The Iron’s current crest, which has represented the club since 1994, has become an iconic part of Scunthorpe United’s identity. However, the club recognises the importance of ensuring that its visual identity reflects both its proud history and its ambitions for the future, and the positivity that returning to a variation of the Unity crest for last season’s anniversary campaign yielded.
The consultation process, should the first phase result in a “yes”, will give fans the opportunity to share their views on the current crest, explore alternative design concepts, and contribute to shaping the visual identity of Scunthorpe United moving forward.
In deriving the Voice of the Fans group, one of the key conversations in the first meeting was around the club crest and whether there would be appetite to undergo a rebrand, and this will be a project that will heavily involve our supporters, especially stakeholders and season ticket holders, as per the Football Association’s guidelines to changing a club crest.
Chair and co-owner Michelle Harness said: “Our crest is more than just a logo, it’s a symbol of who we are as a football club. We want to ensure that it reflects both our heritage and the values we carry into the future.
“This consultation is about listening to our supporters and the local community, so that any decision we make is rooted in the voices of those who care most about Scunthorpe United. We don’t want to make any changes without hearing from the people who make this football club what it is.”
Initially, we are rolling out a simple Google Form to gauge support interest in permanently changing the club’s crest away from its current form. Should this vote pass through, supporters will then be able to participate through a series of surveys and focus groups. Feedback will be collected throughout the consultation period, after which the club will review the responses before making any decisions.
The club is committed to transparency throughout the process and encourages all fans to get involved to ensure that the crest reflects the collective identity of the Iron family. We know how much our crest means to people, and this is your chance to be part of the conversation. Together, we can make sure the badge on our shirts reflects the passion, pride and history of Scunthorpe United.

Should the initial voting process result in a “yes”, there will be a future wider consultation process which will get underway. Changing a badge permanently requires the club to follow a process as set out by the Football Association in order to identify that the change is wanted by its supporters. Any voted change is likely to be in effect from the 2027-28 season, and will not be completed in time for the 2026-27 campaign, although a phased process will be executed in order to rebrand across the whole club.
If a change is voted in, the club will also enter dialogue and be transparent in the costings and impact to rebrand across the wider club, including signage at the stadium and more.
Voting will end for phase one at 4pm on Monday, September 15th.
