Former Iron player Matt Carmichael will be the guest speaker in the restaurant when the Iron host Brackley Town on Saturday, April 11th (3pm kick-off).
He had a relatively short but impactful spell at Scunthorpe United during the mid-1990s, remembered largely for a prolific debut season and his role in an entertaining attacking side.
Carmichael joined Scunthorpe in the summer of 1993 from Lincoln City as part of a swap deal. He was immediately converted back into a forward and enjoyed a standout first season (1993–94), scoring 24 goals in all competitions, including 18 in the league. This made him the club’s top scorer that season and one of the most effective strikers in the division.
One of the highlights of that campaign was a remarkable run of scoring in eight consecutive matches, which set a club record at the time. His goalscoring form helped Scunthorpe push towards the top end of the table in a season where the team played an expansive, passing style under manager Richard Money.
Across his time with the club, Carmichael made 62 league appearances and scored 20 league goals, underlining his importance, particularly in that first year.
Despite the relatively brief stay, Carmichael later reflected fondly on his time at Scunthorpe, describing it as one of the most enjoyable periods of his career due to the team’s style of play and strong dressing-room environment.
