Scunthorpe United is saddened to learn of the passing of former player Mark Hine at the age of 61.
A midfielder by trade, Hine began his career at non-League clubs Billingham Town and Whitby Town before signing for Grimsby Town in 1983 where he would score once in 22 appearances. From 1986 until 1990, he would turn out for Darlington.
With the Quakers, he would make 174 appearances in the old Third Division, the old Fourth Division and the GM Vauxhall Conference over the next four seasons, before he left for Peterborough United in January 1990. He scored 17 goals for during his stay in the north-east.
He would score seven in 55 games for Peterborough United before joining Scunthorpe in 1991, spending one campaign at Glanford Park scoring twice in 22 matches. A spell at Doncaster Rovers would follow before he retired from professional football, playing for Gateshead, Stalybridge Celtic, Spennymoor United, Whitley Bay, Goole, Harrogate Town, Armthorpe Welfare and Frickley Athletic, before returning to Armthorpe Welfare as player-assistant manager in 2003.
When he retired from playing in 2006, he would go on to serve as a coach at Hatfield Main and Brodsworth Welfare.
He also earned caps for the England national football C team, most notably scoring the winner against Wales in March 1995.
