Scunthorpe United would like to remind supporters the importance of their conduct when we host Chester for Community Day on Saturday, March 22nd.
Last season's Community Day, against the same opponent, resulted in charges against both teams. Following an extensive investigation by the Football Association, the Iron was charged with misconduct for a breach of FA Rule E21 in respect of the match. It was alleged that Scunthorpe United failed to ensure that spectators and/or its supporters (and anyone purporting to be its supporters or followers) conduct themselves in an orderly fashion whilst attending the match.
During the game, it was alleged that Iron supporters behaved in a way which is improper, violent, threatening and/or provocative contrary to FA Rules E21.1; and/or encroach on to the pitch or commit any form of pitch incursion, contrary to FA Rules E21.3.
The club admitted the charge and provided a detailed statement in mitigation. Having considered the club’s extensive submission, the FA imposed a fine of £2,000 and warned the club over its future conduct.
Scunthorpe United must remind supporters, that it is an offence to enter the field of play, and the use of pyrotechnics and the throwing of objects can all result in the club being charged, and can also cause serious injury to spectators around you, or the players or safety team.
Co-owner and chair Michelle Harness said: “While we are massively looking forward to our latest Community Day, looking forward to seeing the Attis Arena full to the rafters, and anticipating a brilliant top of the table clash, we are very mindful that this corresponding fixture last year caused us hours and hours of resources to provide our observations, evidence and defence to prevent or mitigate the charges to be imposed on the club - and ultimately cost us money too following the charge which was brandished by the Football Association.
"From the Board, and everyone at Scunthorpe United, I would like to thank all supporters who have, so far this season, conducted themselves impeccably at the Attis Arena. The messages we as a club have put out have resonated with you all, and the lack of misconduct here has been commendable to not only you, but everyone working behind the scenes to identify individuals who have previously caused harm, and to eradicate this.
"Our Community Day is all about celebrating Scunthorpe as a community town, bringing together all walks of life. The team behind the scenes have done a fantastic job in organising this again, and we want the day to celebrate that, and not have another tarnished incident like last year.
"Last season, an individual received a football banning order as a result of his actions during this fixture - don't let it be you this season."
