Scunthorpe United is saddened to learn of the passing of former player Ray Holt at the age of 85 on December 7th, 2024.

A defender, Holt began his career at Huddersfield Town, where he would make a total of 16 appearances between 1961 and 1965. He had to wait over three years before making his first team debut at home to Walsall in a Division Two game in September 1961, having been at the club since 1958.

Ray would go on to make just sixteen league, two FA Cup, and five League Cup appearances for Town before moving on to Oldham Athletic in July 1965.

Born in Thorne, he would spend one campaign with the Latics before signing for Halifax Town in 1966. While at the Shay, he would make 86 appearances across his two-year stay.

He would then move to Scunthorpe in 1968, making a half-century of appearances across his two campaigns at the Old Show Ground.

He retired in 1970 after leaving the club, and later worked at the Drax Power Station before retiring to his home town of Thorne, where he remained until his recent passing.

Everyone at Scunthorpe United would like to send their sincere condolences to Ray's family and friends.
