Scunthorpe born-and-bred forward Rick Green is the final name to be added to the Legends team's ranks ahead of Sunday’s Iron aid football match on the Attis Arena turf.
Green made his first appearance for the Iron in 1975 and hit the ground running during his first spell with the club scoring a respectable 19 goals in 66 league games. Following his departure from United in 1977 he would go on to join Chesterfield for whom he thoroughly impressed during his one season with the Spireites scoring a further 13 goals in 48 games. After a big money move to Notts County failed to work in Green’s favour, he would return to Scunthorpe where he would notch up a further 19 goals across a two year period.
IRON AID 2024
United's legends match, dubbed "Iron Aid" will see a number of former professional players return to the ground, giving Scunthorpe supporters the opportunity to take them on in a game.
All participants in the game will have a breakfast included at the Attis Arena on the morning of the game, followed by a light training session with your special guest manager, to be announced. You'll then have a quick tactics session to get you ready for your big match experience.
Not fancying a stint on the pitch, but want to watch some former legends take on some supporters? Maybe you'll have a family or friend take part, and you want to give them some support (or stick) from the sidelines. Tickets will be available for the game at £5 per person, with Under-16s admitted for free. These tickets will be available to purchase during pre-season.
All money raised from the Iron Aid match, and from the Open Day, will go directly to the football club as another fundraiser to help the club towards sustainability.
