Maison Campbell's loan extended until the end of the season

18 January 2024

Goalkeeper Maison Campbell will remain at the Iron until the end of the season, with his loan from York City now extended.

The 20-year-old shotstopper is highly-rated by the Minstermen and signed a two-year contract extension in the summer, having joined from Mansfield Town two years ago.

Campbell has made one appearance so far for York this campaign in the Vanarama National League, stepping in for the injured David Stockdale away at Aldershot for the second half, where he kept a clean sheet.

He also played in the North Riding Senior Cup at the start of November too, featuring for the Minstermen away at Guisborough Town.

Earlier in the campaign, he had a one-month spell at Marske United in the Northern Premier League Premier Division this season, featuring twice for the Seasiders during that stint. Last month, he joined Northern Counties East Premier Division side Knaresborough Town for more match experience.

Campbell arrived at the Attis Arena at the start of December for a busy festive period as back-up to Ross Fitzsimons, with Aaron Chapman departing the club a week prior, with the National League granting the loan on the basis of having a back-up goalkeeper.

First time manager Jimmy Dean reacted to the extension: "It's a huge plus to be keeping Maison. His personality and attitude is infectious around the place. He's going to be a really good goalkeeper when he comes of age, and he's keeping Ross on his toes, and pushing him every day."
