The Iron will be represented at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, May 13th, as Messingham Primary School play in the National League Kids Cup Final.
The local village school competed in early February for the chance to represent Scunthorpe United in the latter stages, fending off competition from other local schools to move onto the north-east stages of the competition.
Beating all competitors in the north-east stage in mid-March, Messingham had equalled United's representatives had taken the competition previously. The mission was to go one further in the northern finals.
Success once more, as the side managed to emerge victorious from the day and will now journey down to Wembley in a north versus south final, which will take place ahead of the Vanarama National League Play-off Final.
A once in a lifetime opportunity for the Year Five and Year Six students at the school, over 1,000 schools is now down to just two. Their journey has taken them from Scunthorpe to York, and then onto Staveley Miners Welfare, with the capital the next stop.
Their success does come at a financial cost though, with the group fundraising to generate the funds required to take the group down to Wembley. If you'd like to support their travel in any way, please donate through their page - https://www.gofundme.com/f/transporting-messingham-school-kids-to-wembley.
With already fantastic financial backing, including a sizeable donation and use of their coaches from John Leggott College, the community has really got behind the success of these youngsters on what will be a day to remember forever, regardless of the result.
We will have further stories on Messingham Primary School including BBC Radio Humberside features, some Iron pedigree in the team and more, as we move closer towards the fixture.
