Preview: Hull City (H)

25 July 2023

The Iron will be looking to make it four games unbeaten in pre-season and record a first home victory of the new season when Hull City journey to Glanford Park on Tuesday, July 25th (7.45pm kick-off).

Jimmy Dean will be looking for a fourth clean sheet on the bounce too following convincing victories over Ilkeston Town and Gainsborough Trinity and a goalless draw against Doncaster Rovers at the weekend.

In terms of team news, Jacob Butterfield and Andrew Boyce both missed out at the weekend and are working their way back into the reckoning. Tom Pugh is back in training, while Dion Sembie-Ferris featured for Ilkeston Town at the weekend as he stepped up his recovery from a minor operation.

The Tigers, of the Championship, will provide United their toughtest test to date with 10 days to go before the big kick-off against Tamworth.

Regan Slater, a former Scunthorpe loanee, is among Hull's squad and was voted the supporters' player of the year last season. Slater played 15 times for the Iron on loan from Sheffield United, with seven league starts. He scored in pre-season for the club while listed as a trialist.

Also potentially making his return after making his summer move is goalkeeper Owen Foster. His departure from United ended a seven-year affiliation on the south side of the River Humber, having joined the club in 2016.

It will also be a return for Andy Dawson, who is First Team Coach at the Tigers.

The referee for the encounter is Garreth Rhodes, with the assistants Johnathon Bickerdike and Joe Goodwin. The fourth official is Ryan Coulson.
