Jason Law eyeing up one last game to impress ahead of season opener

28 July 2023

Ahead of tomorrow’s final encounter of pre-season, midfielder Jason Law is eyeing up one last chance to impress in a match scenario ahead of next weekend’s trip to Tamworth.

The Iron welcome League One Burton Albion to Glanford Park off the back of two clashes against EFL teams that ended in draws.

Reflecting on pre-season, he started by saying: “It’s been a good pre-season. It’s been great meeting the lads. Training has been great, I feel fit - one of the fittest I’ve felt through pre-season.

“I’ve had one little niggle in pre-season, but I’ve come back and played since then, so I’ve really enjoyed it. Games have all been good.

“The first games were definitely a case of the lads getting to know each other and gelling as well on the pitch. When you’ve got 11 players who don’t know each other, it takes time. We’ve been putting the work in on the training ground as well, with all the patterns, and we’re all on the same page now.”

The 24-year-old focused in on the previous four games as the side looks to take shape ahead of the Vanarama National League North season opener in just over seven days time.

“The games before the last two built us up, doing what we’ve been doing in training,” he continued.

“The last two this week have been very promising against very good teams. We know what we’re doing, we’re well drilled and we’ve got some real good quality in the team, so hopefully that shines through.

“It’s the last game before the season starts and we’ve got a fair few players and everyone is hungry and wants to get in the starting line-up for the first game of the season. It’s all up for grabs this Saturday, and everyone will be looking to impress.”

Law has also added one goal to his game in pre-season, breaking the deadlock away at Gainsborough Trinity. Naturally, the midfielder wants more of the same in the main season, as he looks to contribute to the success of the side.

“It was good to get my first goal, and I still think I’ve got more to show, he stated.

“I’m still getting up to full match fitness, and I’ve definitely got more to come, so I hope I can show that in the coming weeks. All the lads are great, gelling really well and got to know each other. It’s been really good in the dressing room. We’ve played as different teams in the games and in training so everyone knows how to play with each other and it seems like a really good bunch of lads.

“Everyone is excited to get going, and the main thing is everyone is on the same page. We’re looking forward to get started and hit the ground running.”
