Report: Huddersfield Town U18s 1-2 Iron U18s

25 October 2022

The Iron’s Under-18s were victorious away from home on Tuesday morning, winning 2-1 away at Huddersfield Town with minutes to go in the EFL Youth Alliance League Cup.

The Terriers opened the scoring in the second half following a scoreless first, but a Ty Sellars-Fleming brace turned the game around in favour of United’s Under-18s side.

The Iron broke on the counter attack shortly after the Huddersfield opener early into the second period. The ball landed at the feet of Sellars-Fleming, who got it out of his feet inside the area to open up the shot into the far corner, and past ‘keeper Michael Acquah.

In the last few minutes of the game, Under-16s player Blake Gregory caught the Terriers on the counterattack with a switched ball across to Sellars-Fleming, who did well with the ball to put it in for the Iron’s late winner.

Talking following the match, Professional Development Phase Coach Rob Watson said: “To carry the unbeaten run into the FA Youth Cup [against Solihull Moors, November 3rd] is a big positive for us. A result against Grimsby and then against Huddersfield, who are an excellent side, is a really big positive for us.

“Overall, it was an excellent performance. We had to defend our box at times, they had to defend too, and it was just two good sides who played an excellent game of football.”

United’s Under-18 side return to action a week on Thursday, as they face off against Solihull Moors in the FA Youth Cup 1st Round, which is set to be played at Glanford Park.
