On-loan striker Sam Burns was delighted to get off the mark for the Iron with his two first EFL goals in the 3-2 home loss to Bristol Rovers on Tuesday night, though the disappointment of defeat naturally overrid it.

He told iFollow Iron: "Obviously I'm disappointed to lose the game but I’m happy to get my first two league goals of course.

"As a whole though the team is pretty disappointed. I feel like we could have got more out of the game and obviously it's good that we scored two goals, and that's a positive as we haven't been in recent weeks. I feel like we're just conceding sloppy goals and we need to cut it out if we want to start getting points. We must make it tougher to play against us."

Burns scored two different type of strikes; a typical poacher's finish or the first and then a run and shot across goal for the second.

He added: "I’ve been disappointed playing recently and not scoring, I love scoring and I love winning but we have to just keep going really.

"I just need to work harder and get the chances because obviously the last few games I haven’t really been getting many chances and I feel like on Tuesday night I got more chances. Again, that’s a positive and I scored two but getting the chances is also a positive for me."

Looking ahead to Port Vale away on Saturday, he concluded: "Hopefully we can go there and get the points, but we've got to work hard as I say and we can’t dwell on this loss."
