Perry: Hopefully we can have a good season together

27 July 2021

New midfielder Alex Perry is looking to make his mark for the Iron in League Two this coming season.

United's eighth signing of the summer told iFollow Iron: "I'm delighted to sign. I've been here for a little while now (on trial) and they're a good group of lads, who have been brilliant with me from the very first day. The gaffer has shown trust in me along with the staff so I can't wait to get started.

"I was pleased with how the friendlies went (Perry played in the matches against Burton Albion and Hull City). I hadn't played for a while but it was good to get minutes in the legs and hopefully I can get a lot more (before the season starts).

"I've kept myself fit and have been training on my own up to coming here, and I think that showed when we played against Hull as I felt good, but I will work hard now to get even fitter.:

The 23-year-old signs a two-year deal at the Sands Venue Stadium after leaving League One side Wigan Athletic, for whom he appeared 25 times in total last term as he helped the Latics survive in the third tier during what was a tough spell for the club.

"It was difficult and it's well documented what the club went through, but it was great that we could keep the club up and hopefully they can kick on now in League One," he said.

Speaking about the kind of midfielder he is, Perry added: "I like to get on the ball, play and try to run the game, and hopefully I can do that here. I'm not shy of getting on the ball in difficult areas and hopefully that can help us get results as a team.

"It's a young squad but there are experienced lads there as well, and hopefully we can have a good season together. I just want to play as many games as I can and help the team in any way possible."
