The Staffordshire-based official will travel to the Sands Venue Stadium for his 19th game of the campaign and fourth in Sky Bet League Two. The current campaign is his fifth in the EFL.
His first game of the campaign was a goalless draw in the Carabao Cup between Derby County and Barrow. The Rams won 3-2 on penalties and he issued two cautions. His latest game in the middle came last Saturday as Doncaster Rovers secured a 2-1 away win at Swindon Town. Eight yellow cards were shown.
Despite being in the EFL for four-and-a-half seasons, Yates has taken charge of just one previous Scunthope game, with that coming over two years ago. United won on New Year's Day in 2019 at Peterborough United, with seven yellow cards issued, five of which to the Iron (Jak Alnwick, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, James Perch, Lee Novak and Kyle Wootton).
He has taken charge of four Grimsby fixtures to date and would have added to that last month but for being forced off the game following snowfall in his area in December. His last game came in December 2019, while his first two saw him show no cards.
Last season, he took charge of 30 games, issuing 105 yellow cards and seven reds. So far in this campaign, he has officiated in 18 encounters, showing 64 yellows and one red card.
On Saturday, he will be assisted by Anthony Da Costa and Marc Wilson, while David Avent has been appointed as the fourth official.
