Neil Hair to referee Port Vale cup clash

2 September 2020

Neil Hair will be the man in the middle for the Iron's Carabao Cup first round clash against Port Vale on Saturday.

The Cambridgeshire-based official will travel to the Sands Venue Stadium to commence his third season as an EFL official.

His most recent competitive encounter came on Saturday, March 7th when he took charge of Newport County's 1-0 home win over Morecambe. He showed four cautions that day.

He's taken charge of an Iron encounter just once before, coming in December 2018. He showed five yellow cards in the 1-0 defeat at Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup, with United missing a late penalty awarded by the official.

Meanwhile, he's taken charge of the Valiants three times before, with one win sandwiching a draw either side. In the first two matches, he dismissed a Vale player in each - James Gibbons and Leon Legge both receiving straight red cards.

In 2017-18, he took charge of the National League Play-Off Final at Wembley Stadium and showed Tranmere Rovers' left-back Liam Ridehalgh a straight red card after just 48 seconds of the game. Despite this, Tranmere would emerge victorious and beat Boreham Wood 2-1 for a space in the EFL. Hair was subsequently promoted to the EFL himself following a successful campaign - just his second in the National League.

In 2018-19, he took charge of 30 games, issuing 102 yellow cards and seven reds. Last season, officiated in 27 encounters, showing 83 yellows and three red cards.

On Saturday, he will be assisted by Christopher Ward and Oliver Bickle, while Thomas Parsons has been appointed as the fourth official.
