Under-18s preview: Oldham Athletic (A)

13 November 2020

Attention turns to the Youth Alliance Cup on Saturday, as the Iron's Under-18s take on Oldham Athletic (11.30am kick-off).

Please note, in line with the current EFL COVID-19 guidelines, no spectators are permitted at these games.

SCENE-SETTER

The Iron exited the FA Youth Cup at the first hurdle last time out losing to Grimsby Town 2-0 at Blundell Park, while the Latics' Under-19s side progressed to Round Two following a 6-0 home win over FC United of Manchester.

Scunthorpe's last encounter in the Youth Alliance League, though, was a 3-2 home win over Mansfield Town as they maintained their 100 per cent record in the competition, with three wins from three.

Patrick Virgo, Dan Gallimore and Joey Dawson netted for the Iron to complete the win as the side made it three wins from three in the Youth Alliance League.

Both teams have face Lincoln City in the Youth Alliance Cup, with this the final match to take place in the group stages. Despite losing against the Imps 4-1, Scunthorpe can still progress to the next stage of the competition. This is because Oldham beat Lincoln 2-0, putting both sides on three points. United need to win by at least four clear goals to top the table on goals scored.

The Latics come into the game bottom in their league table out of 14 teams (north west conference) with just one point from their six games.
