The Merseyside-based official will travel to the Sands Venue Stadium for his twelfth game of the season and fifth in Sky Bet League Two. 2020-21 is his third year in the EFL after being promoted to the National List of Referees in the summer of 2018.

He began his referee journey in the Southport-based Craven Minor Football League before spending time in the referee academy programme run by Liverpool County FA at both Everton and Liverpool Football Clubs, alongside a spell with Durham County FA whilst completing his studies at university in the north east.

Wright has already taken charge of a Scunthorpe game this season and oversaw the team's only home league win to date back in September. That was a 1-0 win over Carlisle United when he issued two cautions.

He has refereed the Iron on three other occasions, showing a total of 10 yellows and no reds in the four games in total.

His first game of this campaign was a goalless draw between Walsall and Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Cup, which resulted in the Owls progressing 4-2 on penalties. He subsequently took charge of Manchester United Under-21s' 6-0 win at Salford City in the EFL Trophy, although he had to come off injured midway through the game.

His latest match was on November 10th in the Papa John's Trophy as Hull City beat Harrogate Town 2-0 away from home. No cards were issued.

Last year, he officiated in 28 encounters, showing 88 yellows and four reds. So far this season, he has shown 37 yellow cards and one red in 11 matches (although some cautions may have been shown by his replacement at the Peninsula Stadium on September 9th).

On Saturday, Wright will be assisted by Gareth Mellor and Bradley Hall, while Thomas Parsons has been appointed as the fourth official.
