Lee Swabey to referee Oldham Athletic away clash

12 November 2020

Lee Swabey will be the man in the middle for the Iron's away Sky Bet League Two clash against Oldham Athletic on Saturday.

The Devon-based official will travel to the Boundary Park for his 11th game of the campaign and his fourth game in League Two.

His first game of the campaign was the Carabao Cup tie between Oxford United and AFC Wimbledon which finished 1-1 at the Kassam Stadium. The U's won 4-3 on penalties and one caution was issued. Meanwhile, his latest game was on Tuesday in the Papa John's Trophy as Swindon Town snatched victory in the final minute of their match at Forest Green Rovers. Two yellow cards were shown.

He's taken charge of the Iron on just three previous occasions, two of which against Gillingham. The latest of those three fixtures was just over a year ago when he oversaw our FA Cup exit at Crawley Town. Across the three games, he's shown seven yellow cards and one red.

Meanwhile, he's refereed Oldham on four occasions - their most recent being a 6-1 defeat at Mansfield Town which saw two Latics players sent off in the same phase of play. He issued a further three yellow cards on the day and also awarded a penalty to the Stags. In total, across the four games, he's shown 17 yellow cards and two reds.

Swabey works for the Cornwall Football Association as Referee Development Officer and began his refereeing journey at just 17-years-old, completing the FA Referees course with Devon FA and building his experience officiating in the DJM and Plymouth & West Devon Football Leagues. He then progressed into the Devon League as a Level 4 Referee (now the South West Peninsula League), spending a year at his level before being promoted to Level 3.

In 2019-20, he took charge of 27 games, issuing 88 yellow cards and five reds. So far in this campaign, he has officiated in 10 encounters, showing 23 yellows and no red.

On Saturday, Swabey will be assisted by Wayne Grunnill and Graeme Fyvie, while Seb Stockbridge has been appointed as the fourth official.
