SCENE-SETTER
The Under-23 side's last match in the Central League Cup was against Peterborough United, and it was a game where they ran out 3-1 victors through goals from George Miller, Harry Baker and Ryan Colclough.
Meanwhile, the latest encounter came in the Premier League Cup on Monday night, when the side were edged out 3-2 by Hull City, despite twice taking the lead and providing a positive performance against an experienced Tigers side.
Following a game at the start of the week, a number of Under-18s players could play a part following their 2-1 win over Bradford City last weekend, having no game of their own this weekend.
Yann Songo'o stepped up his return from a knee injury with an hour on Monday, but it remains to be seen whether he will be involved again with a first team match only 49 hours later. The same applies for the other first team players on the fringes, with a limited number likely to be risked ahead of the Cheltenham game.
The Iron currently sit in fourth of five following one win from three games in the competition. The opposition are top with maximum points, with the Baggies taking all nine points available, while a win for United could cut the gap to second to just a point - Mansfield Town taking seven points from four matches, while the Posh leapfrogged Scunthorpe in midweek following their 8-0 hammering of Port Vale.
Regardless of the result, the side can neither qualify, nor finish bottom.
