Alfie Beestin pens new Iron deal

11 December 2020

Scunthorpe United is delighted to announce midfielder Alfie Beestin has signed a new contract, extending his stay with the Iron until June 2022.

The 23-year-old initially signed for United’s Under-23s squad in January, but made four first team appearances from the substitutes’ bench before our League Two campaign was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The former Doncaster Rovers player then penned a new one-year deal in the summer and has since made a favourable impression most recently alongside Lewis Spence in the heart of the Iron midfield.

So far this season, he’s made a total of 12 appearances in all competitions, with his first goal coming for the club last weekend against Leyton Orient.

Manager Neil Cox gave his reaction, speaking to iFollow Iron: "It's something that we've been working on for a couple of weeks now, since Will (Swann) came into the building.

"I think he has done a really good job in midfield and has shown a lot of character and desire. He's looked strong, he's looked fit and he's enjoying playing for this football club. As soon as we made the offer to him, he was happy to come in and sign it.

"He's a boy who wants to be at this football club and when you drop out of professional football it's never easy. He's shown a lot of desire, a lot of spirit and he's taken his chance when he's been given it."
