The Tyne and Wear-based official will travel to Blundell Park for his sixth game of the campaign and his third in Sky Bet League Two.
His first game of the campaign was Macclesfield Town's 3-0 home victory over Leyton Orient on the second weekend of the new season. He showed two yellow cards during the encounter. Meanwhile, he most recently took charge of the League One match between Rotherham United and Tranmere Rovers on Saturday which resulted in a 1-1 draw and four yellow cards shown.
He's taken charge of the Iron on 19 occasions in total, most recently February at Oakwell in the 2-0 defeat. He issued five yellow cards, with two of them going to Scunthorpe players; James Perch and Tony McMahon.
Of those encounters involving United, 16 of them have come at Glanford Park, so Tuesday will only be Haines' fourth involving United away from home territory. In total, across the 19 games, he's shown 60 yellow cards and no reds.
Meanwhile, he's refereed Grimsby Town on nine occasions - their most recent being a 2-1 defeat to Notts County at the end of last season. Six of the nine previous appointments have come at Blundell Park so Tuesday will be his seventh visit as the man in the middle. In total, across the nine games, he's shown 27 yellow cards and one red.
In 2018-19, he took charge of 38 games, issuing 108 yellow cards and four reds. So far in this campaign, he has officiated in five encounters, showing 19 yellows and one red.
On Tuesday, Haines will be assisted by Simon Clayton and Richard Woodward, while Garreth Rhodes has been appointed as the fourth official.
