Despite only needing a draw in 90 minutes to secure their progression to the knockout stages of the competition, the Iron looked comfortable against Phil Parkinson’s men.
Eisa said: “It’s been a good day. It’s a home win and a clean sheet in the process, we’re happy to be through to the next round.”
The newly appointed Sunderland boss fielded an XI involving several of the club’s first team players, which Eisa believed played into United’s hands. He stated: “It was a good game to go into, especially for some of the lads who haven’t been playing.
“(Given the quality of the opposition) It was a great opportunity to get some fitness, and of course the result makes it even better.”
Having put in a man-of-the-match performance, the winger managed to grab a late goal, and one that he richly deserved.
He said: “Of course (I’m happy to score), the forward players get judged on how many goals they score and what they create, so it’s always good to get on the scoresheet. I probably should’ve had more than one to be honest!”
After bowing out of the FA Cup last weekend, the Iron’s performance against the Black Cats ensures they progress into the next stage of the Leasing.com Trophy, along with table-topping Leicester City Under-21s.
The Iron now look ahead to Leyton Orient away this Saturday (3pm kick-off), and the wide-man is keen to improve United’s fortunes on the road, Eisa said: “Of course we still need to get our first away league win of the season, which we haven’t managed yet.
“It would be nice to make this one our first. The Christmas period is coming up soon and we need to pick up points, and there’s no better time than now. If we pick up back-to-back wins we could be catching the teams in front, so we need to be prepared.”
