Seb Stockbridge to referee Fleetwood away clash

24 January 2019

Seb Stockbridge will be the man in the middle for the Iron's away league clash against Fleetwood Town on Saturday.

The Tyne-based official will travel to Highbury Stadium for his 25th game of the campaign and fifth in Sky Bet League One. The current campaign is Stockbridge's sixth in the EFL.

His first game of the campaign was a League Two affair between Notts County and Colchester United on the opening day of the season. That encounter ended 0-0 - a game in which he showed six yellow cards.

Meanwhile, his most recent game saw him show three yellow cards in Macclesfield Town's 2-0 away win at Grimsby Town on January 12th.

He's taken charge of Scunthorpe matches on no fewer than 10 previous occasions. His last encounter involving United came over a year ago when he oversaw the 1-0 home victory over Bristol Rovers with Neal Bishop scoring four minutes into stoppage time to snatch all three points.

Of those ten visits, only three have come away from Glanford Park, so Saturday will be his fourth with Scunthorpe involved as the away team. In 10 games, he's shown 43 yellow cards and one red.

Stockbridge has taken charge of eight Fleetwood Town games with his most recent back in January. The Cod Army were on the right end of a 3-2 scoreline against Bury at Gigg Lane in the Checkatrade Trophy. He issued just one caution on the night. In total, he's shown 22 yellow cards in the eight Fleetwood games he's been involved in.

Incidentally, he has taken charge of this fixture once before, back in August 2016 when the two sides drew 2-2. The Iron were 2-0 down before Tom Hopper and a spectacular Kevin van Veen strike earned a sharing of the points. He showed just two yellow cards on the day.

In 2017-18, he took charge of 41 games, issuing 143 yellow cards and six reds. So far in this campaign, he has officiated in 24 encounters, showing 72 yellows and one red card.

On Saturday, he will be assisted by Paul Newhouse and Peter Gooch, while Graham Salisbury has been appointed as the fourth official.
