Marc Edwards to referee Crewe Alexandra away clash

27 December 2019

Marc Edwards will take charge of the Iron's away league encounter at Crewe Alexandra on Sunday.

In what is Edwards' first EFL campaign as a referee, the Tyne and Wear-based official will take charge of the two sides for the second time competitively following his promotion to the National List of Referees this season.

He has experience in the EFL prior to this season though, first starting as an assistant referee before opting to drop back down to the National League with the whistle, where he remained for two years before being promoted back.

He took charge of United's slender defeat against Walsall back in September, showing three yellow cards, while he refereed Crewe's 3-1 home win over Swindon in October, issuing four cautions.

Edwards has currently taken charge of 17 matches so far this season, his most recent being on Boxing Day when he took charge of Shrewsbury's home encounter with Rotherham United which the Millers won 2-1. He issued three cautions.

Last season, he took charge 21 National League matches and one FA Cup match, showing 72 yellow cards and one red. So far this season, in the 17 matches he has refereed, he has shown 41 yellow cards and one red.

On Sunday, Marc will be assisted by Paul Hobday and Darren Wilding, while Natalie Aspinall will assume the role of fourth official.
