26 September 2018

The Iron have teamed up with Virtual Pro Gaming to set up the club’s first ever virtual football team, who will be known as Scunthorpe United eSports.

VPG is the World’s leading Virtual Football website with teams competing in 11 v 11 games online.

As a result of the partnership, Iron fans from around the world will be able to take part in trials to be part of the official Scunthorpe United team and compete in leagues and cup competitions against other eSports teams.

Trials will take place from this weekend following the release of the new FIFA19 game, with the brand-new leagues beginning in October 2018.

Rob Noble, Head of Marketing, Ticketing and Retail at Scunthorpe United said: “Having seen the incredible growth in competitive online gaming, we’re excited to be working with VPG and taking our first steps into eSports.

“Along with providing additional content and growth for our digital platforms, we see it as a great opportunity for supporters to represent their football club, so we hope that plenty of Iron fans will take up the opportunity to trial for a place on the team.”

Arron Dellosa, CEO of VPG said, “It’s great to see Scunthorpe United take their first steps into Esports with VPG. 11v11 is a growing eSport, which allows fans to engage and take part in league and tournament matches against many teams around the world. 11v11 is what football is all about, involves team work, communication on the virtual pitch and most importantly enjoyment.”
