Robert Lewis to referee Peterborough United home clash

11 October 2018

Robert Lewis will be the man in the middle for the Iron's home league clash against Peterborough United.

The Shrewsbury-based official will travel to Glanford Park for his tenth game of the campaign and his fourth in Sky Bet League One.

His first game of the campaign was Swindon Town's dramatic 3-2 home victory over newly-promoted Macclesfield Town in which he awarded the hosts two stoppage time penalties to turn the result in the Robins' favour. In that game he showed six yellow cards. Meanwhile, his latest encounter came in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday night when he oversaw Port Vale's home tie against Burton Albion, issuing three cautions.

The 49-year-old has taken charge of the Iron on eight occasions in total, most recently in October 2017 when the side lost 2-1 to eventual Champions Wigan Athletic at Glanford Park. On that night, he issued five cautions and one red card.

The encounter at Glanford Park will be his sixth visit to the stadium with the whistle. In the eight games refereeing Scunthorpe, he's issued 33 yellow cards and four reds.

Meanwhile, he's refereed Peterborough United on six occasions - their most recent being 2-1 away defeat against Oxford United back in March when he issued three cautions and one red card. In total, he's shown 22 yellow cards and two reds in the six Posh games he's been involved in.

In 2017-18, he took charge of 28 games, issuing 78 yellow cards and five reds. So far in this campaign, he has officiated in nine encounters, showing 27 yellows and one red.

Lewis is one of the EFL's longest serving officials, refereeing his first League Two match in 2005 between Rochdale and Rushden & Diamonds. Prior to this, he officiated on the Conference and was also an assistant referee on the Premier League.

As an assistant, he's been involved in some top matches, including games in the Champions League, UEFA Cup, Euro Qualifiers and a World Cup Qualifier.

On Saturday, Lewis will be assisted by Richard Wigglesworth and Simon Clayton, while Tom Nield has been appointed as the fourth official.
