Neil Hair to referee Shrewsbury Town away FA Cup clash

29 November 2018

Neil Hair will be the man in the middle for the Iron's away FA Cup second round clash against Shrewsbury Town on Sunday.

The official will travel to Mongomery Waters Meadow for his 15th game of the campaign and second in the Emirates FA Cup. The current campaign is Hair's first in the EFL.

His first game of the campaign was a League Two affair against Oldham Athletic and MK Dons, both of which playing their first games in the division following relegation in the previous campaign. The Dons won that encounter 2-1 with Hair showing two yellow cards.

His most recent encounter came on Saturday, November 17th when he took charge of Oxford United's slender 1-0 home win over Gillingham where he showed four cautions. That particular game was just his third in League One.

He's yet to referee either the Iron or the Shrews in his refereeing career to date.

Last season, he took charge of the National League Play-Off Final at Wembley Stadium and showed Tranmere Rovers' left-back Liam Ridehalgh a straight red card after just 48 seconds of the game. Despite this, Tranmere would emerge victorious and beat Boreham Wood 2-1 for a space in the EFL. Hair was subsequently promoted to the EFL himself following a successful campaign - just his second in the National League.

In 2017-18, he took charge of 26 games, issuing 81 yellow cards and three reds. So far in this campaign, he has officiated in 14 encounters, showing 44 yellows and three red cards.

On Sunday, he will be assisted by Anthony Da Costa and Abbas Khan, while Scott Simpson has been appointed as the fourth official.
