The 20-year-old reflected on the 2-2 first leg draw, in which Scunthorpe netted a late equaliser via substitute Cameron McGeehan, before focusing on what effectively becomes a knockout “one game shoot-out” at the New York Stadium.
He spoke to iFollow Iron ahead of the game.
ON THE FIRST LEG…
RY: It probably wasn’t the best performance but to be honest, at this stage, it is all about results. To go a goal down twice and come back is a positive and we have to look to build on that and improve. It’s the signs of a good team and the togetherness, particularly the 88th minute equaliser. Sticking at it until the end of the game is so vitally important.
ON HIS FIRST EXPERIENCE OF THE PLAY-OFFS…
RY: It was a little bit of a nervy atmosphere and you could see that in the first ten minutes. You could say it was a typical play-off game, although I’ve never played in one before. I had that feeling about it. It was a positive result in the end and we need to build on that.
ON APPROACHING THE SECOND LEG…
RY: It’s a brand new game. It’s basically just a one game shoot-out. We’ve just got to do everything, prepare right, do what we’ve been doing in training and just give it our all. It will be a fresh game and we’re really looking forward to it.
ON ROTHERHAM’S THREATS…
RY: They’re a really good all-round, solid team. They’ve got some good individuals in the wide areas but as a team, they’ve got quite a good all-round team.
ON THE POTENTIAL ATMOSPHERE AND AWAY SUPPORT…
RY: I think our away support has been fantastic. I remember the game away at Charlton and our fans were singing their hearts out throughout the whole game. That’s the one I remember the most. If we could have something similar on Wednesday, that would be great.
