The shotstopper made 14 appearances for the Latics during a stay there in the second half of last season, but moved to Glanford Park during the following summer.

Gilks told iFollow Iron that a victory at the DW Stadium would be a big scalp as United look to make a return to winning ways.

ON THE GAME THIS WEEKEND…
MG: We were obviously very disappointed with the result against Oldham and we know we go to the DW Stadium facing a very good Wigan team. They got a good result (last week) coming from behind (to draw) against Blackburn. Their spirits will be lifted, they want automatic promotion. We know it’s going to be tough anyway but we go into it knowing we need to get a result. Wigan will be expecting a tough game and we’re not going to disappoint them.

ON WHAT TO EXPECT FROM WIGAN…
MG: They have a bit of quality on the ball and the two strikers are difficult to handle. They’re good finishers. We could also impose ourselves on them and pass the ball well on a big pitch at the DW Stadium. We want to make sure we impose our game more on them, rather than them on us. They’re one of the favourites to bounce straight back up and were disappointed to be relegated last season. Their momentum is going in the right direction. If we can go their home pitch and win, it’s a massive three points.

ON HIS STAY AT THE DW STADIUM…
MG: I absolutely loved my time there. I was there with Michael McBride (the Iron’s Head of Medical Services), and left because my contract talks stalled. Scunthorpe came in and made my mind up so I came here. I was there for six months, but I loved it there. They’ve got great training facilities and we were desperately unlucky in the end. I have a lot of friends still there and players I still speak to. However, I’ve played a lot of previous clubs this season. I’ll be putting that Scunthorpe jersey on, going over that white line and we need a victory.
