Ready for next stage of pre-season preparations

6 July 2018

Manager Nick Daws has been looking ahead to United's first friendly of pre-season away at Winterton Rangers on Saturday (12noon kick-off).

The boss is very happy with how the first nine days of training have gone, and says the players will receive 45 minute blocks of game time in the match at West Street.

He told iFollow Iron of his expectations: “I want to see the 100 per cent commitment they’ve shown so far and to see some of the principles we’ve been developing in the past week.”

Daws is also pleased with the way new attackers Andy Dales and Olufela Olomola have settled into life at Glanford Park, impressing the coaching staff and their new team-mates alike.

He continued: “Andy Dales has had to adjust to full-time training, but he’s not missed a session. We do have to bear that in mind moving forward because he’s had a big hit in the week, adapting from two sessions a week (at Mickleover Sports) and his own training programme, but he’s done really well.

“’Fela’ has hit the ground running, has been very keen and eager, and has made an impact like Andy. The other players have certainly taken to them because they’ve given everything and not shirked anything, making a really good impression. Both have settled into their accommodations in and around the other boys, and are getting used to their personalities too.”

Assessing the first nine days of pre-season training, he added: “We’ve had some really good quality sessions and the lads are in great shape physically. We’ve been building on what we want to achieve in our style of play, as well as building and maintaining fitness levels.

“A lot of the work we’ve been doing has been quite intense and varied, in terms of speed and endurance work. Now it’s about starting to drip feed the game minutes into the players.”
