The forward signed a two-year deal with the club on Transfer Deadline Day following his exit from Charlton Athletic, and the boss feels the 28-year-old brings a number of qualities to the squad.
Alexander spoke to iFollow Iron on Friday morning, and believes the former Huddersfield and Birmingham man will fit in well with the group of players presently at Glanford Park.
ON HIS LONG-TERM INTEREST…
GA: I met Lee last summer, and tried to get him on board with us, but we had strong competition from Charlton. He’s someone I’ve admired for a long time. I think he’s a very good centre-forward, who can bring many qualities to the team and the squad – not just his experience but his actual ability on the pitch. We’re delighted to finally get it done. It’s been ongoing for a little while, but we’re really thankful we got it done before the deadline.
ON WHAT HE'LL PROVIDE…
GA: He’s proven, especially at this level, and that’s why I tried to get him on board last summer. I think you can’t just take one season in isolation. You have to look at what he is as a person and as a player. He’s still young enough to have loads of football left in him, and I know he will add to the quality of the group of strikers we already have. He will bring out the best in the ones we have here already. He will be great for Paddy Madden and Kevin van Veen to play off, and also for Tom Hopper to learn from, with the experience and know-how of making it difficult for centre-halves, bringing others into play and obviously scoring.
ON HOW HE’LL FIT IN…
GA: He knows, when we came back in for him this time, that we’re long-time admirers of him and we wanted him on board. He knows he’s coming into an environment where he’s appreciated and he will look forward to getting his career back up and running, and will have a point to prove. What he’ll find is a really good group of players who work extremely hard and I think he’ll fit in superbly well.
