Wallace: Important to get it ‘in the bank’

18 July 2017

Defender Murray Wallace has been previewing Tuesday’s friendly clash against SK Strobl on iFollow Iron.

The centre-back is looking forward to the prospect of a matchday, but is also feeling the benefit of a tough first couple of days training in Obertraun, Austria.

ON THE TRAINING CAMP IN AUSTRIA SO FAR…
MW: It’s really tough but we didn’t expect anything less - early mornings and long days. You feel good once you put the work in. You feel fitter and with a grasp of what’s to come. It’s a similar routine to the last pre-season but you saw how we started last season and we obviously want to replicate that don’t we? We came back from that trip really fit and feeling really good. We’re looking for the same again. I feel good. It’s always tough but you have to put the work in and then it’s all in the bank.

ON RUNNING DRILLS EARLY IN THE MORNING…
MW: Last year, we had a run and then we were on the bikes. There has been more running during the mornings this year. The pace has been up a little as well, which took a few of us by surprise.

ON THE FRIENDLY AGAINST SK STROBL…
MW: We will maybe look at different tactics and ways we want to play. It will be interesting playing a European team with a different style. You want to get a full 90 minutes under your belt too.

ON THE MOTIVATION THE GAMES PROVIDE…
MW: We have the games coming up and are looking forward to them. I suppose it can be tough when you wake up and know you have a full day’s slog ahead, but the games are a good thing to look forward to. You just have to think about the games. The first day was the hardest, but you get used to it.
