Burgess: Luton will be a different test

28 July 2017

The 2017-18 campaign is just eight days away, and the former Fulham defender feels he has settled well into the club he joined this summer.

The centre-back, who has scored three goals in our five friendlies so far, previewed Saturday’s final match of pre-season, away to Luton with iFollow Iron.

AHEAD OF THE FRIENDLY THIS WEEKEND…
CB: It will be a different test again. I’d imagine it’ll be a similar style of play to what we’ll face this season. They were close to going up last year and were well up there. It will be a good last game going into the season.

ON THE 0-0 DRAW WITH SUNDERLAND ON WEDNESDAY…
CB: It was different to what we’ve faced so far. They played some really good football and kept the ball well. There were a lot of big players out there, it was a tough challenge and good to get a clean sheet. They are a league above us and that’s the level we want to be playing at. It was good to get a gauge of that in pre-season. We had some good opportunities but we could have won in the end. Matt Gilks made some good saves, but all in all it was a good clean sheet and we were pretty solid.

ON THE COUNTDOWN TO THE NEW SEASON…
CB: We just can’t wait to get going. Everyone’s raring to go. Hopefully we can hit the ground running and that’s what everyone’s looking forward to now. Everybody’s getting the minutes under their belts, and feeling good.

ON PRE-SEASON OVERALL…
CB: Austria was a tough week but it’s good to get back, play my first game in front of the game in this stadium, and back into the swing of things at home. It’s flown by. There have been long days and we’ve worked hard, and can’t wait to get going now.

ON HIS CHANCES OF STARTING IN THE TEAM…
CB: I can only do what I do, and hopefully that’s enough to get a starting spot. It’s a team effort at the end of the day though, to get ourselves promoted at the end of the season, and we will all support each other throughout.
