Toney staying positive

6 April 2017

Ivan Toney says it’s important to “keep a positive frame of mind” heading into Saturday’s home fixture against Bolton Wanderers.

Toney states there’s no time for dwelling on what’s gone before, instead the focus is placed fully on taking three points off the Trotters.

Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD, Toney said: “We’ve got to keep a positive frame of mind, and go into the game looking for three points.

“You have to (be positive), because you can’t do much about the game that’s already gone. You’ve got to brush that out of your mind, and go again at the weekend.”

With just five games left of the campaign, the 21-year-old highlights there simply are no easy matches remaining.

Bolton will be no different in Toney’s eyes, but he’s confident of getting a positive result this weekend.

“Every game is big, whether it’s at the beginning of the season or the last game of the season, but we need those points to remain in the play-off positions,” Toney stated.

“Everyone wants to be winning games, especially now. We all have to dig deep, and do what is needed.

“We’ve got to brush that (the Millwall loss) out of our minds, go again, and do what’s needed this weekend.”

On a personal note, the Newcastle United loanee has started Scunthorpe’s last two outings, and a sustained run in the side is something he’s aiming for.

He also thanked manager Graham Alexander for giving him a chance to showcase his abilities, and vowed to return the compliment by finding the net for the Iron.

“Hopefully I can play a part and score some more goals,” he declared.

“It’s been good, I’m enjoying my football. I want to be out there playing as much as I can, and the manager has given me an opportunity to be doing that.

“I’m grateful to him, and hopefully I can repay him by scoring some goals.”
