Dawson eyes third home win in a row

6 April 2017

Iron skipper Stephen Dawson is relishing this weekend’s encounter against Bolton Wanderers at Glanford Park.

More importantly though, Dawson wants a third successive home victory, after strong performances in matches with Rochdale and Bradford City respectively.

Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD, Dawson said: “It’s another great game to be involved in.

“They’re a very good team all over the pitch but, as we’ve shown before, we can match them, and it’s a game we both really need to win.

“We’re coming off the back of two very good home wins against two good sides in Rochdale and Bradford.”

The Irishman knows what the Trotters are capable of, but he encouraged his team-mates and the Scunthorpe supporters to take heart from how United acquitted themselves in the reverse fixture at the Macron Stadium.

He said: “They’re a well organised team, they’re playing well, they’re coming here on the back of a really good patch of form.

“However, it’s a game you want to play in, against a top team with top players. Like we showed at their place though, we matched them all over, and to be fair we should have won the game.”

Dawson believes it’s important to look forward rather than backward, after losing out at Millwall last Saturday.

He explained the lessons have most definitely been learned from that defeat at the Den, and added the focus is purely on emerging victorious this time out.

“We reflected on it as we always do, and then you’ve got to move on,” he stated.

“There’s no point dwelling too much on the past, you’ve got to know where you went wrong and put it right for a great game in Bolton on Saturday.

“We’ve got to remain positive.”
