Alexander previews Coventry clash

28 April 2017

Iron manager Graham Alexander is looking to finish the regular Sky Bet League One season on a high.

Alexander and his players welcome Coventry City to Glanford Park this Sunday and, despite a play-off place already being confirmed, the United boss is seeking three more points.

Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD, Alexander said: “We’re looking forward to the game.

“We want to win, and we’ll prepare as we always prepare for a match. All of our training will be about beating Coventry on Sunday.

“Although it’s not the last game of the season, we want to win it, as we always do, and we have to make sure we’re fully focused on it.

“The players are in a really good place at the moment. In the last month or so the results have been fantastic.

“The performances have warranted the wins, so we want Sunday’s game to be the same as that. We have to perform at a good level to make sure we give ourselves the best chance of winning.”

He’s expecting a stern test from the Sky Blues however, who he believes will head to North Lincolnshire with a great deal of confidence.

“It’ll be a tough game, because I think Coventry will come here with a bit of freedom about themselves,” he explained.

“They’ve had a lift with the Checkatrade Trophy win, they’ve had a lift since Mark (Robins) has gone in, and they’ve picked up some really good results.”

Selection-wise, Alexander says he’ll more than likely be without full-back Scott Wiseman, after the 31-year-old picked up a knee injury in the victory over Swindon Town.

The Iron boss does have defensive options though, with both Jordan Clarke and Levi Sutton ready to return.

“Scott (Wiseman) is probably not going to play on Sunday. I think it’s too much of a risk to push him towards that,” he revealed.

“He’s probably 50/50 for the play-offs, so we’ll see how he is in the next few days.

“I’m disappointed to lose him, because he’s played exceptionally well over the last couple of weeks, and been a big part of our performances.

“Jordan (Clarke) has come back into training this week, and he’s looked sharp. Levi (Sutton) has looked very good as well, so we’ve got a little bit of a selection issue to decide.

“That’s great for me. I know it’s tough decisions that I have to make, but it’s great to have those selection problems.”
