The club are saddened to learn of the passing of former player Joe "Bobby" Benson, aged 83.
The Misterton-born wing-half arrived at Scunthorpe from the local leagues in 1955 and made his debut in a 3-2 thriller against Stockport County.
That debut would come six years into his association with the club. Benson, at the time, was a 22-year-old National Serviceman and a product of Scunthorpe schools football and was one of the original players within their newly established junior sides.
He would make just one more appearance for the club in a 2-0 victory over Hartlepools United five days later.
