In June 2017, the Iron completed the signing of central defender Cameron Burgess from Fulham on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

He left the Cottagers after six years at the club.

Burgess joined the Fulham academy in 2011 from ECU Joondalup in Australia before signing a professional deal at Craven Cottage in 2013. He made his debut for the side in August 2014 in the Championship, making four appearances and impressing in a defensive midfield role.

Born in Aberdeen, he represented Scotland three times at U19 level before switching his allegiance permanently to Australia, attaining three caps for the U20 string and seven at U23 level.

The 2016-17 season saw him make a total of 41 appearances in Sky Bet League One during loan spells at Oldham Athletic and Bury respectively, scoring one goal. He has also had loan stays at Ross County and Cheltenham Town in 2015 and 2016 respectively, the latter of which aided the Robins to promotion from the National League.

He made 33 appearances during his first season at Glanford Park, scoring on two occasions, before netting once in a further 40 appearances the next campaign.

He joined Salford City on a season-long loan in July 2019.
