Assistant Manager

Mark Lillis

Date of birth

Scunthorpe United announced Mark Lillis had officially returned to the club as Assistant Manager in August 2020.

Lillis assists his former Iron team-mate Neil Cox, and returns to the role he left in 1999 following a memorable play-off final promotion at Wembley to the then-Second Division.

He was originally assistant manager between 1996 and 1999, working under Mick Buxton (his ex-United boss as a player) and then Brian Laws.

He left to become manager of Halifax Town during the summer of 1999. Spells at Derby County, Stockport County, Morecambe, Huddersfield Town and Chennalyin FC then followed in various coaching capacities.

Prior to working for the Iron as assistant manager in 1996, he had been at Macclesfield Town and Huddersfield.

As a player, Mark started his career at Huddersfield, making over 200 appearances over seven seasons before being sold to Manchester City. He went on to play for Derby and Aston Villa before signing for the Iron in 1989.

A fans’ favourite, he made 80 appearances and scored 31 times during a two-year spell in claret and blue. He went on to play for Stockport, Witton Albion and Macclesfield. His senior playing career encompassed around 400 league appearances.
