In June 2017, the Iron completed the signing of central defender Cameron Burgess from Fulham on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
The Australian international became United's first summer signing ahead of the 2017-18 campaign, leaving the Cottagers after six years at the club.
Burgess joined the Cottagers’ academy in 2011 from ECU Joondalup in Australia before signing a professional deal at Craven Cottage in 2013. He made his debut for the side in August 2014 in the Championship, making four appearances and impressing in a defensive midfield role.
Born in Aberdeen, he has represented Scotland three times at U19 level before switching his allegiance permanently to Australia, attaining three caps for the U20 string and seven at U23 level.
Last season, he made a total of 41 appearances in Sky Bet League One in loan spells at Oldham Athletic and Bury respectively, scoring one goal. He has also had loan spells at Ross County and Cheltenham Town in 2015 and 2016 respectively, the latter of which aiding the Robins to promotion from the National League.
