A full road closure will be in effect on the M181 in both directions from Friday, March 28th at 8pm until Monday, March 31st at 6:00am.
Supporters attending the Attis Arena for the Iron against Southport on Saturday, who would usually come through this route, are encouraged to set off early with diversions in place and a real possibility of severe delays.
This closure is necessary to facilitate the continued safe construction of the new Southern Junction roundabout project.
During this period, a diversion will be in place. Once the road reopens, the M181 will be reduced to a 50 mph speed limit with one lane open in each direction.
Esh Construction, the contractor awarded the project, commenced work on July 1st last year beginning with the first phase of construction. This involved establishing temporary accesses from Burringham Road to allow for the movement of equipment and construction materials within the work area.
Upon completion, the new junction is anticipated to alleviate traffic congestion currently experienced at Berkeley Circle.
Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and anticipate delays during the closure period.
