Scunthorpe United is delighted to announce the contract extension of defender Joe Starbuck.

The 22-year-old originally joined the Iron in February and after patiently waiting for his opportunity to step into the starting XI grasped his chance following an injury to Oli Rose. Making 12 appearances during the back end of the National League North season, Joe quickly became one of the first names on the team sheet for Andy Butler, something the full-back will be looking to continue next campaign.

The right-back began his career by coming through the ranks of the Iron's rivals Grimsby Town's youth set-up. After a number of appearances for the Mariners first-team he was snapped up by then Premier League side Sheffield United on a long-term deal.

After several seasons of consistent starts for the Blades U23's side, Starbuck would enjoy loan spells in the National League North with both Kidderminster Harriers and Boston United before his eventual release from Sheffield United in the summer of 2023.

After departing youth football, the talented full back would link up with former Iron boss Nigel Adkins at Tranmere Rovers last season where he made just a handful of appearances in his short stint with the League Two club.
