Preview: Spennymoor Town (A)

26 March 2024

The Iron return to Spennymoor just two weeks after another late postponement in the north-east, with the game quickly rearranged by the National League (7.45pm kick-off).

With three wins in three, the Iron have netted nine times in their last three and not conceded a single goal. The Iron started the run batting off Bishop’s Stortford 5-0 away from and then two, 2-0 victories at home to Banbury United and then Warrington away from home.

The reverse fixture at the Attis Arena was a day for United to remember as United ran out 6-0 victors. Connor Smith netted twice in the first seven minutes, before Tyler Denton made it 3-0 going into half-time. Second half goals from Jason Law, Jacob Butterfield and Danny Whitehall wrapped up all three points.

IRON TEAM NEWS

Liam McAlinden is available for selection following his three-match ban, and is likely to be included in Jimmy Dean's matchday squad. Will Evans moves onto the second of his four-game absence through suspension following his second red card of the campaign.

Kai Corbett made his debut from the bench at the weekend, and made a favourable impression, as did returning winger Callum Roberts, who stormed back from eight weeks on the sidelines like he'd never been missing.

Jason Law steps up his return to full training, while Alfie Beestin withdrew at the weekend after failing a fitness test, and will miss out.

THE OPPOSITION

Since we were last due to play Spennymoor two weeks ago, the side have climbed one place to 11th in mid-table, but go into this game as the league's in-form team.

Town have won eight of their last nine games, with just one of the games being a draw. Spennymoor have won their last six and have aspirations of sneaking into a playoff spot, sitting just three points behind seventh.

A key player for our opponents is Robert Ramshaw, the 30 year old midfielder has netted eight times this season and has been a crucial player. He has netted two in his last three and has got multiple winners to get his team out of jail and without a doubt will be a tricky player for the Iron to contain.
